Terminal Fee Exemption for OFWs starting March 2017

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Gen. Manager Ed Monreal said airlines agreed to automatically relieve Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who purchased their return tickets to the Philippines abroad from paying terminal fee starting March of next year.

The present terminal fee of returning OFWs is ₱ 500.00. This fee is refunded though, through MIAA refund counters in Philippine airports which is added convenience for them.

"Airlines have already agreed in principle, so, hopefully by March 2017, OFWs will now be exempted from paying terminal fee", Monreal said.

The said exemption will be implemented by March next year to give time for the airlines to update their systems and programs for this new policy.

This will be an early Christmas gift for the OFWs as described by OFW advocate and former labor undersecretary Susan Ople.

MIAA's target date of March 2017 is understandable because there are system changes involved that will require the cooperation of airlines.
